Movement is vital to life. We are designed to move in all different directions.
Movement gives us:
- Healthy joints
- Physical strength
- Improved cardiovascular circulation
- Improved concentration and learning skills
- Improved mental wellbeing
With more and more jobs becoming home-based, many people spend between ten to fourteen hours per day sitting on a chair in front of a computer. This results in increased musculoskeletal aches and pains, increased stress, and weight gain.
From this week onwards increase the amount you move. Take more breaks to stretch and move. Don't do the same old stretches. Vary them up. Use stairs instead of lifts if possible. If you're home, go up and down the stairs a few times.
Remember to build up gradually. If you haven't exercised in a while, start slow. Start with a ten minute walk and gradually build up. Use common sense and listen to your body. If it starts to hurt, stop.
You will be doing this long-term, so start slow, allow your body to adapt, and then increase.
Start today, and move!
