33 – Less social media

Social media has become a part of everyday life for millions of people around the globe. IT has helped connect people and businesses in ways that would have been impossible before. It has become a great tool, but it also has significant downsides.

As we become more connected online, we are losing our ability to connect physically, face to face. Several studies have been carried out to highlight these issues.

One study carried out by the Happiness Research Institute found that people who avoided social media for just one week found they were in a better mood than before because they became more present and aware.

According to researchers Hugues Sampasa-Kanyinga and Rosamund F Lewis, frequent use of social media results in poor psychological and cognitive functioning.

Yet another study published in the Guilford Press Periodicals found frequent Facebook use linked with depression. Participants who used it frequently showed more signs of depression than those who logged in less often.

This week spend half the usual time on social media than you usually do. If you can, go the entire week without any social media. Notice how much better you feel.
