28 – Meditate

Meditation has many scientifically proven benefits, such as:

-         Helping reduce stress

-         Helping control anxiety

-         Promoting emotional health

-         Increasing your self-awareness

-         Helping improve memory

-         Aiding better sleep

-         Helping lower blood pressure

-         Leading to greater compassion

Given the fast-paced nature of our life, mediation allows us to put on the brakes for a bit and gives us time and space to be.

The most straightforward meditation to learn is breathing meditation.

Find somewhere you will be undisturbed for a while, sit, and get comfortable. Close your eyes and shift your attention to your breath. When ready, begin counting your breath, one as you breathe in, two as you breathe out and so on. Count up until nine, then cycle back around to 1.

Do this for 3-5 minutes. However, if you find this difficult, start by doing it for 1 minute. As you get better, you can begin to increase the duration of the mediation.

You will find that it doesn't take long for your attention to shift, and your mind begins to wander. Don't worry about this. It happens to everyone. Catch yourself and bring your attention back to your breathing.

This task is for you to practice daily, and within a short period, you will begin to feel the benefits of doing so.
